Offering a minimally invasive treatment option for carpal tunnel syndrome

The traditional carpal tunnel surgery involves making large wrist incisions to work on the ligament pressing down on the carpal tunnel. Endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery only requires a couple of tiny incisions to achieve the same results. Since endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery is minimally invasive...

  • This procedure requires no use of cast after surgery
  • It offers a quicker recovery period and less downtime than traditional surgery

Carpal tunnel surgery

Carpal tunnel surgery, also known as carpal tunnel release, is a surgical procedure aimed at alleviating the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the palm of the hand, becomes compressed or squeezed at the wrist within the carpal tunnel—a narrow passageway of ligament and bones. Dr. Crawford uses a  minimally invasive technique for this surgery, which involves one small incision in the wrist and allows him to release the ligament that forms the roof of the tunnel, thereby relieving pressure on the median nerve.

Many other doctors use a more invasive procedure that involves significant risks and a prolonged downtime.

Following carpal tunnel surgery, our patients experience a significant reduction in symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and wrist immediately afterward.

Physical therapy and exercises are often not necessary with this technique because of the minimally invasive nature.  Before undergoing a more invasive surgery, see Dr. Crawford at the Crawford Clinic.

Minimally invasive surgery

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) represents a significant advancement in medical procedures, offering patients the benefits of reduced trauma, shorter recovery times, and fewer complications compared to traditional open surgeries. Dr. Crawford utilizes these specialized techniques and tools to perform surgical procedures through small incisions, often with the assistance of cameras and miniature instruments. By minimizing the size of the incisions and reducing the disruption to surrounding tissues, minimally invasive techniques lead to less pain, scarring, and blood loss, ultimately promoting faster healing and a quicker return to normal activities for patients.

Examples of these techniques include endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery, arthroscopic labral repair and rotator cuff repair and arthroscopic knee surgery.  Additionally, auascular necrosis of the hip and autologous chondrocyte implantation are employed at the Crawford Clinic.

Dr. Crawford carefully and thoroughly studies new literature related to minimally invasive technique that may be advantageous for his patients.

Endoscopic procedures revolutionize

Dr. Crawfords adoption of Endoscopic carpal tunnel release many years ago is just one example of his commitment to the best possible care for his patients.  As a result of his use of this technique, thousands of patients have been cured of carpal tunnel symptoms without a painful surgery, prolonged downtime, or extensive physical therapy.
